The traditional irrigation system of canals and weirs (known as subak) in Bali,which has been acknowledged by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site, needs more serious handling, said I Wayan Windia, a Professor at Udayana University.

Professor I Wayan Windia, who is also the Head of the Subak Research Center of Udayana University Denpasar, emphasized that the management of farmers should be more intensive and comprehensive so that the farmers who are members of the subak system can increase their success.

He said that the subak cultural system has been acknowledged as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO for its uniqueness inimplementingthe Tri Hita Karana philosophy in managing irrigation and farming on rice fields.

It is also a tourist attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists enjoying their holiday in Bali.
