DENPASAR ~ Sudarman, 29, of West Sumbawa, went on trial at the Denpasar District Court on Wednesday, accused of smuggling 11 turtles out of Bali.

Sudarman was caught by naval officers on coastal patrol along coast of Nusa Dua, and tried to escape on a traditional boat, KMN Harapan Keluarga, before three naval officers apprehended him, the court heard.

Prosecutor Cok Intan charged Sudarman with smuggling, saying he broke government legislation on fishery resources.
