DENPASAR ~ Governor of Bali Dewa Made Beratha has approved the minimum wage for workers in Bali, varying from Rp685,000 (US$73.1) to Rp805,000 per month.

The new minimum salary is based on discussions with businessmen and labor unions and will come into force on January 2, 2008.

Head of the Tourism Labor Union of Badung Putu Satyawira told the media that he welcomes the new minimal salary and expects that companies that cannot immediately comply with the regulation can approach the governor for postponement.

“They can file for a postponement by showing their records of the last two years and a summary of negotiations with the workers in the company,” he said.
