Yudhoyono Warms Summit with Song

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has enrolled music in the war against climate change.

On Wednesday, a honeyed, Yudhoyono-penned song on climate change serenaded environment ministers from 180 nations, meeting in Bali to debate climate change.

“We are all gathered in Bali / committed to a better world,” ran the refrain sung by schoolchildren, shown in a video in front of a waterfall and other scenes of Indonesia’s natural beauty, that was screened in a ceremonial break in speeches. At one point, the announcer asked the delegates to join by singing. Most chose to watch politely.
