GIANYAR ~ The government launched an environmentally friendly fuel in Gianyar on Tuesday, following a biofuel development program, and to coincide with the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Nusa Dua in December.
In a ceremony attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, state oil company PT Pertamina launched the distribution of Bio Pertamax and Bio Solar to six stations in Denpasar, four in Badung and one station in Gianyar.
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources spokesman Sutisna Prawira said that both biofuels were of a quality that helped maintain cleaner engines, resulting in higher fuel efficiency.
He said Bio Pertamax is 97 percent Pertamax and 3 percent pure ethanol, while Bio Solar consists of 98.5 percent solar and 2.5 percent FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester).
Bio Pertamax is priced at Rp6,800 per liter (73 US cents) and Bio Solar Rp4,300 per liter in Bali.
