Government Warns Investors to Respect Temples

BADUNG (BT) ~ Legislators in Badung regency have warned developers to maintain a minimum distance from temples when planning projects, officials said.

Head of Commission A of Badung Legislative Council I Gusti Ngurah Sudiarsa told reporters on Thursday that the limit should apply to everyone, including owners of tourism accommodation facilities.

According to Sudiarsa, violations against the sanctity of temples are due to a lack of control by authorities in the areas.

“Don’t wait until there’s a violation to take action. The authorities should have observed developments from the beginning to avoid these violations,” he said, adding that cooperation with local village officials was also necessary.

To decrease the violations, Sudiarsa suggested that the land surrounding temples be used other facilities for the Balinese Hindus, thereby reducing available areas for development. (RD)
