Gianyar ~ Gianyar Regency has the lowest unemployment rate in Bali, with 13,601 people out of work, data acquired by The Bali Times show.

According to I Made Sukarta of the Gianyar Legislature Office, the unemployment rate in Gianyar is considered small, particularly when compared to other regencies.

“The unemployment rate in Gianyar is the lowest in Bali,” he said, adding that many available work opportunities were in the tourism sector, such as handicrafts, tour guides and hotel services, with a minimum wage of Rp650,000 (US$68) per month.

However, officials have blamed the weak local tourism for the current unemployment rate in Gianyar.

“Tourism is weak now. That’s why we have so much unemployment in the regency,” said Anak Agung Gede Putra of the regent’s office.
