Expat on Trial over Drugs

DENPASAR

A French citizen went on trial at the Denpasar District Court on Wednesday, accused of possession of hashish.

Garcia Patrice, 49, faces up to four years’ prison if found guilty.

The man, who was living in Bali, was arrested at his home in Denpasar in August.

Bali Police said this week that the number of foreigners arrested in Bali for drugs offences has risen sharply this year.

The trial of another foreign Bali resident, Angus McCaskill, resumes on Thursday.

McCaskill, 57, born in New Zealand but an Australian national, faces 12 years in jail after being picked up by police in June with 3.58 grams of cocaine on him.
