Bomb Blast in Jakarta Injures One

JAKARTA

A man carrying a homemade bomb on a bicycle was badly injured on Thursday when the device exploded near a market on the outskirts of Jakarta, police said.

Police said the device was packed with nails and exploded as the man rode the bicycle down a street in Bekasi.

A note was found at the scene expressing a desire to take revenge on police for the killing and arrests of suspected Islamist militants.

“We’ll investigate if there was a revenge motive,” Jakarta Police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said.

Two police sources confirmed that the device was a bomb. Media reports said cables, a detonator and nails were found at the scene.

The unidentified 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital with wounds to the face and neck, as well as a broken arm and leg, police said.
