American singer Madonna, who by repute once famously greeted a caller at her door clad only in bubble wrap, chose a more modest outfit for her 52nd birthday party, held in London last Saturday.
She chose a low-key bash to celebrate the big event, too, reportedly spending only US$150,000 on her little soiree at London’s trendy Shoreditch House. Her boyfriend Jesus Luz and her daughter Lourdes, 14, attended. Luz had apparently sourced the venue earlier in the day.
Madonna was in London to film her new movie, W.E., but took time off to celebrate with friends and family in a private room before the party moved to the club’s rooftop pool, where according to the London media revellers enjoyed canapés of scallops, calamari, crayfish and quail eggs.
Her A-list friends did not make an appearance. British actor Laurence Fox, who stars in her film, was one of the few celebrities seen arriving for the party.
Madonna’s actual birthday was on Monday.
