An earthquake of 7.1 magnitude struck off the coast of Papua on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami warning, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake struck at 10:16 am and was located 123 kilometres southeast of the town of Biak at a depth of 10 kilometres below the seabed, it said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
