Thai PM Says Country ‘Returning to Normal’

BANGKOK

Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Sunday that the country was calm and returning to normal, and that schools, streets and government agencies would reopen on Monday.

“Everything is calm and returning to normalcy,” the premier said in his regular Sunday television address.

Abhisit said that city authorities were cleaning up the rally zone in Bangkok’s top retail district which was forcibly cleared last week after a six-week occupation.

“Traffic and everything will return to normalcy tomorrow. Government agencies and schools will reopen,” he said, referring to measures laid down to keep civilians off the streets as troops clashed with “Red Shirts” protesters.
